At the heart of this Garden is a large Victorian greenhouse. Chosen in truth mainly for its handsome looks but there’s a bit more going on with the structure than just that.
Take for example the wide and high doors, measuring six foot six inches high by two foot ten inches wide the doors are wide enough to take a wheelbarrow with ease. In this instance, an area of the greenhouse has been partitioned off to create two distinct growing areas.
The rear section of the greenhouse is home to a collection of orchids and stag ferns whilst the larger front area is used in the summer for growing a range of herbs, tomatoes and salads. When laying the base a space has been left to plant directly into the ground. On the other side of the greenhouse there’s two different widths of staging to accommodate a selection of plants.
The staging legs cantilever back to the plinth leaving plenty of space for storage boxes which in this instance are placed on pallets with wheels, a clever way of accessing and storing composts and pots with minimum effort.
Stepping outside the back door and taking the short trip to the greenhouse you can feel your mood lifting. An open gravelled area in front of the greenhouse makes for easy access. To the left of the door, a colourful array of flowers in pots whilst the right-hand side has been left empty.
That is to allow the door to fold back on itself. It is held neatly in place with a clever catch so the door can be left open on warm days. Look carefully and you’ll see this customer loves his greenhouse, there’s even a door matt to wipe your feet as you go in!
At the plain end of the greenhouse electrics have been mounted centrally, well away from the staging where you watering takes place. Heaters have placed in this area to protect tender plants during the winter.
By partitioning off this section it will only be necessary to heat this part of the greenhouse. Mounted from the ridge a strip light can be turned on so the greenhouse can be used in the evenings, particularly as the nights draw in.
It’s clear that this customer spends a lot of time in the greenhouse, it’s a place to grow, relax and escape the stresses of everyday life.
